Latest News View All News Boardman Drive To Succeed Scholarship Exciting news from the Boardman Township Police Department and the Boardman School District! We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Drive to Succeed Scholarship Program, designed to help teens tackle the financial hurdle of getting their driver training and licenses. We get it – learning to drive is a rite of passage, but it can be pricey. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Ohio’s Drive to Succeed program, backed by the Ohio Traffic Safety Office of the Ohio Department of Public Safety. This means we’ve got the funds to make sure our teens have the skills they need to hit the road safely. Boardman Township recently scored big with a whopping $147,885 grant to be used over two years for this program. Boardman’s dollar amount was the 3rd highest grant award overall in phase 2 of the program. In fact, the BPD clinched the highest grant among police departments anywhere. Boardman Police Sergeant Paul Grimes, assigned to the patrol division, was the driving force behind this initiative and calls it a true win-win for our community. "We’re all about giving our youth the tools they need to navigate the roads safely. The grant will allow us to help approximately 300 teens afford their driver’s training–and ultimately the more on the road training, the safer our streets will be,” said Sergeant Grimes. WHAT NEXT? Congratulations to Boys Track & Field Coach John Phillips for reaching 100 wins as the head coach of the Boardman Spartans. The 100th victory was solidified on Tuesday night when the Spartans defeated Canfield, Chaney and East on Senior night in Spartan Stadium. The team surprised him Wednesday before practice with more signs and celebrations! Phillips is in good company as he is the the 3rd Boardman coach this year to reach this milestone following Coaches Jeff Hammerton for girls basketball and Justine Cullen for girls bowling.
